Re: Proposed Installation of Signage and Rooftop Features
11 Bond Street, NoHo Historic District, LPC-25-07909
Dear Chair Carroll:
Lower East Side Preservation Initiative — LESPI — has reviewed the proposal for the installation of facade signage and, at the rooftop, HVAC equipment and a metal framework.
We have no objection to the following work items:
- the halo and blade signs and letter inserts, which we believe are appropriate due to their materials, which recall signage used historically on buildings of this type and age, and to their relatively small size in relation to the facade,
- the roof work, including the HVAC equipment and the aluminum roof structure, which will be barely noticeable from the street, assuming they are finished in a dark color.
We believe that the following items are not appropriate to the building and historic district:
- The interior window linear light surrounds and 4th story ticker screen signage, which will call too much attention to themselves on the building and streetscape, and will detract from the building’s historic architecture, in effect turning the facade into a giant illuminated billboard.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Richard Moses
President
