Re: Application for Marquee and Entryway Infill, LPC-24-11367
82 East 4th Street, East Village/Lower East Side Historic District
Dear Chair Carroll:
Lower East Side Preservation Initiative — LESPI — has reviewed the referenced proposal for a new marquee and entryway at 82 East 4th Street, a Romanesque Revival style apartment building constructed in 1926.
We support the marquee installation as being restorative to a historic period of the building, as shown in the ca. 1940 tax photo. This fits nicely with the many theaters currently operating on East 4th Street within the historic district.
We find the new entrance door to be appropriate in terms of its configuration and paneled construction, and have no objection to the patinated brass finish.
Finally, in the interest of full disclosure, the project architect for this proposal, Gagandeep Singh, is on LESPI’s Board Of Directors and is a member of our Architectural Design Review Committee; however he has recused himself from involvement in our deliberations here.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Richard D. Moses
President
